St Columba Hotel
Ownership and History

In December 2004 The St. Columba Hotel was purchased by a small consortium of Iona based people who came together to form St. Columba Hotel Limited. The company is made up of: Louise and David Allaway, Angus and Alison Johnston, Daniel Morgan and Claire Bachellerie, Neil Harvey, Malcolm Morley, Judy Russell, Gill Black and Michael and Kate Gordon. Together we are St. Columba Hotel Limited.

This was predominantly an Iona based buy out of the hotel. The idea was to involve as much island ownership as possible as well as people who have experience in this industry. There is a board of five with Neil Harvey in place as Managing Director.

Obviously Daniel and Claire now have a share in The St. Columba as well as owning The Argyll. We want to be clear that the hotels will be remaining independent and will purposefully maintain their own unique identity. That said, we will continue to work closely and will develop our working relationship to its full potential.

As owners we see ourselves as guardians of these buildings and the hospitality that they offer. We recognise that to a great number of people the hotel, and this island, offer a very valuable space for peace and re-creation.

The St. Columba has a rich history which is detailed in one of the stories on the right of this page. There you will also find more information on the present owners.
