Walking up to the hotel from the jetty the first sight to greet you will be our kitchen garden. It’s here we produce the vegetables, salad leaves, herbs, seasonal soft fruits and flowers that make their way to the tables of the hotel.
Some such as carrots and kale are Scottish staples, others are a little more unusual: our Purple Majesty potatoes will brighten any plate! All our produce is certified organic by the Soil Association.
To grow produce successfully here requires an understanding of the quirks of food growing on the Scottish west coast. We have a short, intense growing season, and variable weather. However the light sandy soil is a dream to work with and the annual application of seaweed done for centuries to provide rich, natural fertility. We think the view from the garden is also an advantage. There’s no evidence it helps the produce, but it certainly helps the gardeners!
